The United Nations Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory condemned the escalation of Israeli occupation attacks in the Gaza Strip, warning of continued grave violations of international humanitarian law and a worsening humanitarian situation, particularly for children.The ongoing blockade depraves the population of basic necessities, including adequate shelter, medicine, and food supplies, while the the occupation’s attacks in Gaza violate international humanitarian law principles relating to distinction, proportionality, and the taking of precautions during military operations, the UN office warned in a press statement.The majority of Gaza’s population is living in a state of displacement within less than half of the territory’s area, amid the continuation of Israeli ground operations and military expansion westward. These developments are forcing further displacement of families and pushing them into increasingly confined areas, with new displacement orders issued in recent days compelling residents to leave their places of shelter, the office added.Concerns over the commission of war crimes in Gaza remain unchanged with the continued military attacks against a population living under chronic displacement and widespread destruction of infrastructure including the health, education, food production, and civil systems, said Head of UN Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Ajith Sunghay.
