Microsoft adds AI to notepad app

Microsoft is preparing to add a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature to the built-in Notepad application in the Windows operating system (OS).Windows observers have discovered code in recent Microsoft preview releases for the Windows 11 OS, indicating that the new Cowriter feature is coming soon. This feature uses AI to rewrite text, make the text shorter or longer, and change the writing style or text formatting. The new feature contains the same credits system that Microsoft uses in the Cocreator feature in the Paint application to allow Windows users to know the number of times they can use these features that support AI, which requires an online service to log into Microsoft account to use the Cocreator feature in the Paint application. In recent years, Microsoft has greatly improved the Notepad app within the Windows 11 OS by adding dark mode, tabs, number of characters, and other features, such as automatic saving and automatic restoration of tabs. The company seeks to integrate this type of AI features directly into Windows applications as a way to attract users to purchase AI credits. This new feature comes at a time when Microsoft is removing the WordPad application from Windows after nearly 30 years.
